Join us as we share some scholarly findings
Join us for chance to explore the rich history of Black craftspeople which spans beyond those war years of the Revolution, as African Americans sought explicit realities of liberty through craft well into the 19th and early 20th centuries with the underpinning idea of African American craft as a catalyst for freedom-seeking based on the 2025 DAR Museum exhibition "Fighting for Freedom: Black Craftspeople and the Pursuit of Independence."
Talks will feature invited scholars from a variety of institutions and expertise including contemporary artisans and demonstrations of historic craft.
The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Tamika Nunley on Friday evening following a reception of light snacks focusing on her research about black enslaved women, tying together the themes of the symposium.
